Child monks

Nowadays in Myanmar, monastic schools assist in providing the country's basic educational needs, especially for children from needy and orphaned families, bridging the significant gap in the education system.

In general, Burmese monastic schools accept children from needy families who live nearby and cannot attend state schools. Many of the orphans who attend monastery schools in Yangon and Mandalay come from remote areas and were sent by senior monks from their villages and small towns.
